Veterans’ Land Act, R.S.C. 1970, c. V-4, s. 37

  • Nature of Interest: Claim or charge against lands sold by the director to a veteran for the sale price of the lands, or any part of the price or any interest thereon, or any charge in favour of the director.
  • Effect of Charge: The claim or charge has priority over the mechanics’ lien laws and other lien laws of the province.
  • See also the British Columbia Land (Veterans) Act, R.S.B.C. 1979, c. 222, which should be read in conjunction with the federal statute. Section 5 of the provincial Act provides for a lien in favour of the federal government with respect to the value of improvements made on Crown land reserved for the purposes of the Act.
  • Note: The effect of both of Acts is largely spent.
