Forest Act

The Forest Act provides for the designation, maintenance, and regulation of provincial forests. It regulates the right to harvest Crown timber through agreements that may be entered into by the minister, and which include forest licences, timber licences, tree farm licences, and woodlot licences. In addition, the Act deals with royalties, rents, road and trail building, recreation sites and trails, general forest protection, reforestation, rights of way, and log salvage.

See Part 3 of the Forest Act, Disposition of Timber by the Government, regarding the issuance of licences under the Act.

Range Act

Under the Range Act, the minister may grant grazing licences and permits, administer grazing leases, and grant hay cutting licences and permits.

Section 21 of the Range Act enables the minister to require, as a condition of a grazing licence or grazing permit, that an applicant enter into an agreement making land owned or held under lease by the applicant available for grazing purposes by other persons. Such agreements may be registered in the land title office for the district in which the land is situated.
